I did this self portrait as part of a project for Lavender Hill Studios. Artist Jill Hooper hosted an event where artists from LHS all created self portraits in different media and then had a group critique about them. This is the first time I've used classical pens and ink wash in the last four or five years. So most of my time was spent playing with the medium. If I were to go back and do another, I'd spend more time implementing what I've learned about shadows and light logic at LHS. I used a Chinese calligraphy brush, mapping pen, cartooning pen and a calligraphy pen.
Henry Yan came to Lavender Hill Studios to teach a quick course in his methods of fast and direct drawing. I think I've got some practicing to do, but here's my scribbles from the last week.
