A couple of quick oil paintings from my last term at Lavender Hill Studios. I'll probably fit in a second sketch on the figure painting.
I did this self portrait as part of a project for Lavender Hill Studios. Artist Jill Hooper hosted an event where artists from LHS all created self portraits in different media and then had a group critique about them. This is the first time I've used classical pens and ink wash in the last four or five years. So most of my time was spent playing with the medium. If I were to go back and do another, I'd spend more time implementing what I've learned about shadows and light logic at LHS. I used a Chinese calligraphy brush, mapping pen, cartooning pen and a calligraphy pen.
I had the pleasure of running a weekend figure drawing workshop in Manchester with Salford Artists Workshops (www.saw.ac) on the behalf of Lavender Hill Studios (www.lavenderhillstudios.com). We had a wonderful group of students who weren't afraid to take risks. Thanks to everyone at SAW for their hospitality.
This demonstration is from my Gesture and Anatomy class. I'm getting my students to understand how the body functions - not exactly looks - one area at a time.
These demos are from my classes at Lavender Hill Studios. The first is from our basic foundation class demonstrating the first stages of drawing and chiaroscuro in the 'encajar' drawing system. The second and third come from my anatomy and gesture class. These are to demonstrate structural ways to approach the skeletal forms.
