This demonstration is from my Gesture and Anatomy class. I'm getting my students to understand how the body functions - not exactly looks - one area at a time.

These demos are from my classes at Lavender Hill Studios. The first is from our basic foundation class demonstrating the first stages of drawing and chiaroscuro in the 'encajar' drawing system. The second and third come from my anatomy and gesture class. These are to demonstrate structural ways to approach the skeletal forms.
From March 15th-17th I'll be running a weekend life drawing class at the Salford Artist's Workshop. For registration detail visit www.saw.ac
"We are excited to announce that Lavender Hill Studios will be coming to Salford, Greater Manchester to run a full weekend, life drawing workshop. Lavender Hill Studios is a leading London atelier and, to quote from their website, are dedicated to furthering the traditional techniques and methods of representational art.(Website is http://lavenderhillstudios.com/ ) The workshop is split into two parts: 1. Saturday and Sunday: Students will draw from a life model and receive tuition in classical/traditional drawing using Lavender Hill’s method for representational art, ‘Encajar’ (‘envelope’) . Price: £125.00 2. Friday evening: Introduction to ‘fast drawing’. Learn how to get the essentials of the subject on paper, fast! This is a bonus class and optional for those attending the Encajar workshop. Price: £25.00 (Free for those attending the main Encajar workshop)" The drawings in my class were consistantly too stiff, so I forced my students to free up with some one minute drawings and the help of one of the most energetic models in the industry.
I was attempting to show my students how limiting the information and sticking to three core values can create a stronger drawing in this demo, but as usual everone wants to charge ahead and put finger nails and eyelashes on the damn thing.
